Saudi Arabia and Maldives has signed an agreement on religious cooperationtoday at a meeting held at Islamic Ministry.
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Ahmed ZiyadBaghir signed the agreement on behalf of Maldives while Minister of Islamic Affairs, Endowment,Dau’wa and Guidance of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh SalihBin Abdul AzeezBin Mohamed Bin IbrahimAl-Sheikh signed the agreement on behalf of Saudi Arabia.
Following the signing ceremony, Saudi Islamic Minister stated that the historic agreement signed between the two countries will prove very beneficial for both countries.
“This is a very strong bridge between Maldives and Saudi Arabia. The purpose of this agreement is for both governments to provide support for each other. Maldives has always been like a brother to Saudi Arabia.I am confident that this agreement will help to further strengthen ties between the two countries.”
The Minister also said that the agreement will work to pave way for both countries to do many things; such as translation of accurate material on Islam to Dhivehi as most of today’s youth were searching the Internet to find answers to their questions regarding Islam and getting exposed to inaccurate material.
The Minister further said that President Abdulla Yameen’s recent visit to the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman Bin Abdul Azeez had helped to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
He also said under this agreement, the Islamic Ministries of the two countries can carry out various projects, including the exchange of visits by religious scholars of both the countries, to share experiences and hold discussions on various religious matters.
Maldivian Islamic Minister DrZiyad said that this agreement will make it possible for Maldivian scholars to gain knowledge from Saudi Arabia and will pave way for projects such as construction of mosques and training of Imams.
