Saudi Arabian Charge D’ Affairs Thoriq Al Fayiz has stated that the recent agreements signed between Maldives and Saudi Arabia had facilitated even better bilateral relations.
Thoriq said that the agreements were historical, as the two nations were the only nations that were fully Islamic. He described this as a new chapter between the two nations and will benefit Maldives immensely.
Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Ziyad Bagir reported that under the agreements signed, Saudi Arabia will lend assistance in raising Islamic awareness among the public and will facilitate spread of Islamic knowledge.
He added that Maldivian scholars will be able to visit Saudi Arabia and gain experience from their fields. Additionally, Saudi Government will lend assistance in constructing mosques.
Saudi Arabian Minister for Islamic Affairs, Endowment, Dawah and Guidance Sheikh Salih bin Abdul Aziz bin Mohamed bin Ibrahim al Sheikh signed the agreement for Saudi Government, while Islamic Minister Dr. Ziyad signed on behalf of the Maldivian Government.
