The proposed state budget of MVR 27.5 billion for 2016 have attracted attention, both positive and negative. Based on past budget
projections, next year’s budget is the strongest when it comes to public spending and mega projects.
All Members of Parliament who had deliberated the budget had remarked that the proposed activities in the budget were vital. The only concern raised by the MPs were if the proposed budget activities will actually earn the projected amounts in the given time.
This year’s budget was MVR 24 billion. Some MPs had raised the issue of the effectiveness of the budget, citing that many of the projects planned for this year are either being implemented or to be implemented.
