At the Twentieth Sitting of the Third Session of the People’s Majlis held today, the projected State Budget for 2016 was passed with 59 votes in favour as recommended by the Budget Committee. There were 19 votes against.
Eleven amendments proposed to the Committee Report were rejected since they did not receive majority votes.
The Committee Report on the matter was presented to the floor by Committee Chair Ahmed Nihan Hussein Manik, MP for Vilimalé.
The proposal to extend debate time on the projected State Budget for 2016 was passed with 74 votes in favour. There was one vote against and one abstention.
Thirty two Members spoke during time allocated for debate on the Committee Report.
The Budget Committee was comprised of the Public Accounts Committee and the Committee on Economic Affairs as stipulated in Article 179 (d) of the Regulation Governing the Proceedings of the People’s Majlis. The Projected State Budget for 2016 was sent for Committee Review on 12 November 2015 at the 15th Sitting of the 3rd Session.
