President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has said that there were many dangerous people in the Maldivian society.
President Yameen made the statement in the ceremony held to welcome two new Parliamentarians and three Councilors to ruling PPM.
He said that such people plot abroad and that some of them have ended up in jails of other nations for their crimes. President Yameen said that such individuals have to be welcomed back home but urged vigilance on such people.
“We submitted the bill on protecting the society from such individuals not to defame one person. The focus is protection of public,” President Yameen said.
He added that there will be many, both domestic and international, who will find fault in this motion but will do all that is necessary to protect the nation.
President Yameen said that this endeavor was undertaken at the expense of some development project. However, he stressed that it was vital that such a motion was introduced as a deterrent against those perpetrating such actions.
President Yameen said that it was the Government’s responsibility to ensure that the public was safe from all dangers and assured that they will enact all measures possible.
