Twenty public companies has signed the Declaration of Intent to Contribute to a Climate Resilient, Low Carbon Economy.
The agreement was signed in a ceremony held in Environment Ministry yesterday. Minister Thoriq Ibrahim signed the agreement on behalf of Environment Ministry. Heads and representatives of the companies signed on behalf of their respective companies.
Speaking after signing the pact, Minister Thoriq Ibrahim said that every company can play a vital role in reducing carbon emissions. He said that even though Maldives was a small nation, due to our circumstances we have to make a bigger effort at a national level.
Minister Thoriq said that there were some working to curb the work of the Government in this field, but stressed that they will not succeed. He stressed that working to mitigate climate change was not the responsibility of one single entity or government or individual, but rather a global responsibility.
Minister Thoriq pledged that he will work tirelessly to secure finances for the environment related projects and in ensuring they are complete successes.
