Emirates Airlines had reported that the largest number of bookings done in the holiday season from UAE has been for the Maldives.
Maldives is closely followed by Turkey, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Emirates Holidays Vice President Robin Perry said that most of the travelers who had made bookings had already paid for their trips. Maldives, as a destination had grown in popularity in the past few years, with the country receiving high accolades in international tourism awards.
Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer had said that 2016 will be a golden year for tourism sector and as such, 2016 is being marketed as the visit Maldives year.
