Maldives will not compromise stand: Thoriq
Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim has stated that Maldives will not compromise on the stand taken in the COP 21 meeting and will seek to find concrete solutions to the issues.

Speaking to Miadhu, Minister Thoriq said that as Maldives was the chair of OASIS, we will be advocating for the rights of the low lying nations.

He said that Maldives will seek to claim damages from the developed nations for the cost of carbon emission.

Minister Thoriq added that he was sure that the rights of the low lying nations can be safeguarded from the COP 21 summit, stating that returning back home barehanded was not likely.

He stated that Maldivians were not interested in migrating as a solution for the issue of climate change. However, Minister Thoriq said that Maldives was interested in a viable solution for the issue in order to remain in the country.

Minister Thoriq said that presentations regarding the situation facing the nation and the solutions for the issues are to be held in the sidelines of the summit.
