STO Managing Director Ahmed Shaheer has said that the number of teams taking part in STO Home Improvement Bashi Tournament increasing from four to 21 teams in four years was a big success for the company.
He made the statement speaking in the opening ceremony in Maafannu Stadium Volley Court. Shaheer said that in the first tournament held four years ago, only four teams took part in the tournament. However, he said this year 21 teams took part, citing this as a major success for the tournament.
Shaheer said that STO had always prioritized sports for women and preservation of a cultural sport. He added that the sport was started after discussions with experts of the field.
He added that STO had always prioritized female empowerment, with many women filling managerial and supervisorial positions in the company. Shaheer thanked all those who had worked to make the competition a success, especially noting the pivotal role played by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim. He added that even though First Lady was unable to attend the opening ceremony, she had given assurance that she will attend the final match.
Shaheer assured that STO will always work to promote sports and appealed to all to respect the spirit of the game.
