Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Ziyad Baqir has said that one of the biggest reasons for the increase in negative societal values was straying away from Quran.
He made the statement, speaking in the award ceremony of the Quran competition held in HA. Dhihdhoo. The competition was run by Sun Foundation and Dhihdhoo Constituency MP Abu Latheef Mohamed and was held in the month of Ramadan. Five islands in the constituency took part in the competition.
In his address Dr. Ziyad likened a person with less adherence to Quran as that of a decaying house.
A prize money of MVR 100,000 was awarded to the winners of recitation by book and recitation by heart categories. Jaudha Zaki won first place from the recitation by heart category. Nazla Ismail Rasheed won first place from the recitation by book category. The prizes were handed to the winners by Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, who original hails from the Atoll.
