Cases against former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor and former Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Abdulla Ziyath has been forwarded to Prosecutor General’s Office.
Adeeb is charged with charged with abuse of power in such a way that paves the road corruption and misappropriating the funds that he received in return. Ziyath is charged with treason.
PG office stated that these charges were the first charges under the new penal code.
Adeeb is being charged with abuse of power in leasing a lagoon to a foreign party for resort development.
An individual had submitted the case to ACC two years back. However, ACC had not revealed any information on whether the case was ever under review, previously. ACC now said that the case was under review.
PG had already forwarded arms possession case of the former VP to the Court for trial. The court has already prepared a three member team of judges to review the case.
Adeeb, who was arrested on the allegations of conducting the failed assassination attempt on the President’s life on 28th September, is also facing terror charges as well as corruption charges on the MMPRC fraud.
Judges Saeed Ibrahim, Muhthaz Fahmy and Ahmed Rasheed is to review Adeeb’s charges.
