40 percent spend on social projects is remarkable: WHO
World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for South-East Asia, Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh has remarked that the Government spend of 40 percent of state budget on social projects is remarkable.

Speaking at the function held today to celebrate 50 years as member of WHO, Dr. Khetrapal Singh said that every achievement the Maldives have attained in the health sector is through taking every step with wisdom.

She added that the spend was a remarkable amount for the region and that the benefits of the expenditure has been seen from the health sector.

Dr. Singh said that the Maldives have completely stopped the transmission of Polio and Malaria in the country, along with no record of a Measles and Rubella patient in the country since 2010.

WHO has been active in providing guidance, resource development and other projects run in the country. Health Ministry had recently revealed that WHO consultants were working in the country and that the Government was seeking more consultants for various other projects.
