Spend on convicts is rising at an alarming rate: Dr. Shameem
Civil Service Commission’s President Dr. Ali Shameem has expressed concern over the sharp rise in the expenditure on maintaining convicts at the expense of the education sector.

He made the statement addressing the participants of the camp run by Islamic Ministry.

Dr. Shameem said that the reports of low levels of chemicals at the school laboratories were common in the country. However, he said that almost all government agencies were involved with the maintenance and the rights of convicts.

Dr. Shameem said that the convicts are processed through the judicial justice system at an exponential cost.

He said that a solution for the issue can only be sought by the elder generation setting a proper example and guidance to the younger generations. He stressed that all citizens had to learn integrity and practice patriotism.

“The nation is calling for all citizens to become a Bodu thakurufaanu, a Dhon bandaarain. If we were to work to achieve this in the next 10 years, the UN will recognize this effort,” Dr. Shameem said.
