Department of Immigration and Emigration has stated that the age on work visas are sometimes changed to bring in minors into the country, illegally.
Speaking to press in Economic Ministry, Immigration Officials said that the minimum age for employment is 18 as per the constitution. The officials also said that if they had observed such cases, they will take action.
Immigration stated that 1192 individuals were denied entrance and an additional 1055 individuals were sent back home.
“Among this, 72 were denied entrance because of forged passports, 71 individuals were denied entrance due to incorrect information. Three more were arrested on aiding illegal immigrants and 27 were sent back for forged stamps on the passports,” Immigration officials said.
The department added that 170 individuals were sent back on issues with work visas and for working while under tourist visas.
Immigration Department said that multiple checks have been introduced to limit the number of illegal immigrants into the country.
