Malaya University’s Shariah and Law Department’s Academy of Islamic Studies Dr. Ahmed Hidhayath bin Buan has said that Islamic sharia is not just based on the written laws but also on the principles of Islam.
He made the statement speaking in the sermon, held as part of the “Message” series conducting by the Islamic Ministry. He said Islam begins with the basic principles of Islam.
The Professor said that belief, faith and compassion were critical to establishing Islamic sharia and the basic principles have to be met. He added that Governments were mandated with implementing the sharia to secure social justice.
Professor noted that murder was a punishable offence in Islam and that Islam had strict rulings on what to do in such cases.
“In the old days, Muslims were murdered by the enemies of Islam. Today, it is Muslims who are murdering Muslims,” he said.
Professor Hidhayath had urged to follow Islamic sharia in governing day to day life and to strictly adhere to the instructions in Islam.
