Divisional Operations Command Head Assistant Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau has revealed that the Police, Immigration and Councils will carry out special operations this year to resolve human trafficking issues in the country.
He made the statement in his official trip to the ADh Atoll, while meeting Council Members of ADh Atoll Council and ADh Mahibadhoo Council.
Police Media Official, Police Station Inspector Ismail Ali said that in the meeting held with ADh Atoll Council, discussions centered around the projects that can be undertaken by the Police, Council and Immigration to combat the issue of human trafficking.
ACP Ali Shujau appealed to Council members to ensure the expatriates in the atoll or council are there after completing the required legal processes.
Additionally, the discussions centered on sharing information on human trafficking with boat captains and boat owners. ACP Shujau also appealed to the councils to pass the messages and information on preventing trafficking to boat owners and boat captains.
ACP Shujau also enquired from the Council members on the measures that can be undertaken by the Police stations in the Atoll to improve their services. He also briefed the Council members on the projects planned by the Police to ensure safety and security of the Atoll is maintained.
Discussions were held with the ADh Mahibadhoo Council members on the issue of sexual abuse of minors, domestic abuse and drug abuse. The discussions focused on preventing such issues and the measures that can be enacted by Police in the island and the Council. Additionally, Police said that awareness programs are to be held in the island to deter citizens from crime.
ADh Atoll Council and ADh Mahibadhoo Council Members as well as Division Commander North Central Province Chief Inspector of Police Hassan Saeed and ADh Atoll Commander took part in the two meetings that were held separately.
