The Maldives strongly condemns the attacks on 3 January 2016 on the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tehran and its consulate in Mashhad by Iranian protesters.
The Government of Maldives recalls the fundamental principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises, and the obligations, under the relevant international treaties, on the host Government to take all appropriate steps to protect diplomatic and consular premises against any damage, and to prevent anything that would prevent the Missions from carrying out their duties.
The Government of Maldives calls on the Government of Iran to take all the necessary steps to ensure that the perpetrators of these atrocious crimes are brought to justice as quickly as possible.
The Government of Maldives believes that it is in the interest of everyone concerned that diplomatic dialogue is continued with the aim of resolving disputes.
