Villa College to begin PhD programs
Villa College Rector Dr. Ahmed Anwar has said that the College will soon begin conducting PhD programs in the country.

Speaking at the orientation program for new students Dr. Anwar said that Villa College was working to introduce PhD programs to the Maldives so that students can complete their higher education in the country.

Dr. Anwar said that the success of the investments made by the Government and individual parties can only be measured by the increase in the number of students seeking higher education.

“Government had initiated mega projects such as the Ihavandhipolhu initiative. If there are no educated individuals to fill the job opportunities created by such initiatives, then there will be no benefits to the country. The days of ending education along with A-Levels are over. We now need Masters and PhD’s,” he said.

Dr. Anwar said that they have completed all the procedures to become a University and had submitted to the Government. Therefore, he said that he hoped that the preliminaries can be completed as soon as possible and that the College can formally be given the University status.

He added that even though the University had not been formally accorded as a University, the accreditation and certificates given by the College is up to University levels, such as the Shariah and Law Courses run by the College.
