Reasons for formation of Islamic rule was enforcing rules: Imam
The imam of Islamic Center has said that one of the reasons for the formation of an Islamic nation was to enforce the laws and rules made by God.

He said that the statehood of Islam was formed after the Prophet made the Hijrah to Medina, and the Prophet was the first statesman. Following the Hijra, the imam said that a Muslim society was formed and that made a state possible.

“After the HIjra, the principles of Islam, instructions in Quran, criminal punishments were revealed and fine-tuned. An enforcement body was an essential aspect of these principles and measures,” he said.

The statements by the Imam are credence to the importance of implementing the shariah and an Islamic statehood.

Scholars agree that a society where Islamic principles were not enforced cannot be called an Islamic nation. This is a common sentiment expressed by Maldivians leaving for Syria and other such nations to take part in what they term as an Islamic nation, one which they say does not exist in the Maldives.

It has been about eight years since the Islamic shariah principles had been enforced in the country.

Saudi Arabia had steadfastly implemented the Islamic shariah, stating that no western power or decree had the power to prevent them from doing so.
