Adhaalath Party Scholar’s Council’s Leader Sheikh Ilyas Hussain has said that the Party’s Leader Sheikh Imran Abdullah chose jail on his own accord.
He made the statement speaking in the rally held last night by Adhaalath Party.
Sheikh Ilyas said that Sheikh Imran had been given many offers by many individuals but had refused to compromise his beliefs.
He stressed that speaking about the ills that are perpetrated in the society was a responsibility of the scholars, adding that they cannot be exempt from this.
Many have expressed concern over the 12 year terror charge against Sheikh Imran. Reports had surfaced that after the trial a female state prosecutor had gone back to the office and cried over the verdict.
Local paper Addu Live had speculated on whether the above mentioned lawyer will be allowed to litigate in the appeal process of the case.
