Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizz has said that the Equatorial Convention Centre (ECC) constructed for the SAARC summit is to be converted to a 100 bed tertiary hospital.
Responding to a question posed by Addu Meedho Constituency MP Rozaina Adam, Dr. Muizz said that the consultants on the project had assured that the Hospital can be turned to a tertiary hospital.
The additional facilities and buildings needed for the tertiary hospital will be created on the convention center area.
Dr. Muizz added that the President had passed to convert the ECC to a tertiary hospital to make the best use of the building. He further said that a special committee had been created in the Health Ministry to oversee the proceedings.
Minister Muizz cited that the Auditor General’s report found many cases of corruption linked to the construction of the ECC, amounting to over millions.
