With religions awareness Maldives can become a standard against corruption: Mishra
Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Akhilesh Mishra has said that the Maldives can become a regionally recognized standard on successfully combating corruption, if religious awareness became a priority.

He made the statement speaking in the premier of the ACC produced “Bithufangi 2” series held Monday night in Olympus.

In his address, Mishra noted that corruption was an ill that faced the whole of the world, adding that the work against corruption was a huge undertaking.

He added that in order to prevent the spread of corruption, citizens must be granted easy access to governmental services and use of technology to increase transparency. He further said that independent institutions and watch dog agencies have to be granted a wide range of powers and their mandate broadened.

Mishra said that citizens had to be aware of their responsibilities as much as their rights.

The Indian Government has launched a wide range of activities to combat corruption, especially in tackling money laundering cases.
