President Abdullah Yameen has said that the corruption cases of former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb came to limelight after the explosion aboard the Presidential speedboat on the 28th of September last year.
Speaking in the inauguration ceremony of the water supply network in Thoddoo Island, President Yameen said that corruption had always been present in the Maldivian society, akin to many other nations. He stressed that corruption has to be managed and controlled.
President Yameen said that his regime is focused on combating the ills of corruption. He added that he will take action against anyone, even if that act had been carried out by a member of his family or a close associate.
He further said that the origin of any cash is not reflected on under normal circumstances, adding that this was the case when Adeeb had given cash to Members of Parliament and other individuals. He stressed that thieves will not be able to serve in the Government, assuring that he will take action on the issue of corruption.
Speaking in the ceremony, STELCO Managing Director Abdu Shukoor said that STELCO will be managing the water supply and sewerage networks in the island, as per the Government directive which states that all such supplies will have to be managed by the electricity service provider in the country.
