Police, defense witnesses give differing eye witness accounts for Mahloof
Five police officers have testified that Galolhu South MP Ahmed Mahoof had attempted to flee the police in today’s hearing of the case against him.

The state had filed obstruction of justice charges against the MP, regarding the incidents of 3rd April 2015, when he had refused to get on the police vehicle, after police had instructed him to board the vehicle multiple times.

Mahloof presented eyewitness statements from two journalists in his defense. Vmedia’s Ahmed Hameed Adam and Raajje TV journalist Mohamed Visam had testified that they did not see any attempt by Mahloof to escape after he was escorted from the Court. They added that Mahloof’s wife and family had been near the Court and that his wife had attempted to talk to him.

Police officers testified that they had witnessed Mahloof attempting to flee, going towards Hilaaleege, adjacent to the Court.

An additional defense witness was to give his statement but had not been able to attend the session today. If proven guilty, Mahloof will be jailed for six months, with the possibility of a reduced sentence under the new penal code.
