Environment Ministry has said that the Ministry will distribute five LED bulbs to every home, as the Government of Maldives had received a generous donation of 210,000 LED bulbs, amounting to MVR 10 million, from the Government of China.
Speaking in the signing of the MOU for the “Fahi Ali” initiative, held this morning in Seneco Hall in Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu, Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim said that the bulbs will be distributed to those families who opt to take them, via STELCO, FENAKA and MWSC. He added that the service is to begin at the earliest possible date.
Minister Thoriq thanked the Ambassador and the Government of China for the generous donation as well as for the additional pledge of 250,000 LED bulbs.
The Minister added that more initiatives were being introduced so that the country can lessen the reliance on non-renewable and fossil fuel based energy sources.
