Kimbidhoo Constituency MP Abdullah Riyaz said that all corruption related transactions, especially relating to MMPRC must be nullified.
Speaking in today’s Parliament session, Riyaz said that many of the islands leased under MMPRC had been leased at reduced rates or without any charges, while fabricating payments.
He urged that these transactions have to be nullified as they were based on fraudulent terms and that the cash from these transactions have to be recovered.
MP Riyaz said that the MMPRC corruption was the biggest proven case of theft and as such government agencies have to be thoroughly investigated for their role in it.
He especially noted that there was a financial intelligence unit, calling for a separate investigation on the resignation of the head of the unit. MP Riyaz also named ACC, MMA, Banks, and Independent Institutions of the State, Police and Police Intelligence Unit as bodies that need to be investigated in connection to the issue.
“This is a nation. Not a private company. we are talking about the rights of the public. The effects of this will impact the nation for years to come,” he said.
