Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham has said that 2015 recorded the highest number of cases filed to the agency.
Speaking in the ceremony held to publicize the 2015 annual report, Bisham said that in the past year, 1831 cases were filed by the agency to the Court. Investigative agencies had filed 4509 cases were filed, out of which 3191 cases were completed. The same number of cases were sent to Court.
241 cases were sent back, while 128 cases were sent back on account of lack of evidence. 482 cases were sent back on various issues, while 406 cases were held by the agency.
101 cases were given an additional chance for further consideration, while two were sent back for additional information clarification.
49 cases had quoted PG as a co-respondent in the appeal, while 8 were appealed in Supreme Court.
She assured that she will fulfill her mandate and will work independent from influence.
Bisham was appointed on 25th November after her predecessor Muhthaz Muhsin was removed following a no-confidence motion.
