Economic self-sufficiency is core aim of Govt.: President
President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has said that even though the nation was one of the smallest nations in the world, the Government aimed to ensure that each and every citizen was given economic freedom and economic self-sufficiency.

He made the statement in the opening of the Tsunami Memorial Pavilion held Sunday night.

President Yameen said that the parks and pavilions such as Rasfannu was developed to ensure that the citizens had easy access to open areas, clean air.

He added that such services were not available in foreign hospitals, noting that the country had made significant achievements in the area.

President Yameen said that once the 25 storey hospital complex was completed, 70 percent of the population in the area will have access to a wide range of health services. He added that the Government was not able to provide a full range of health services, noting that private partnership in the public sector health sector was essential.

President said that the services such as physiotherapy will be handed over to reputed international companies and that they will provide health services to international standards.
