Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim that the MVR 3.5 billion required for the sanitation and water networks of the planned projects for this year had been secured.
He made the statement speaking in the inauguration ceremony of the clean water network system held in Maamigili Island of Alif Dhaal Atoll.
Minister Thoriq said that the MVR 1.5 billion required for the initiative had been secured. An additional MVR 490 million had been received as grant aid, while MVR 500 million had been allotted from the state budget.
Minister Thoriq added that he was assured that President Yameen will complete his pledge of initiating clean water and sanitation systems in fifty islands in his five year term.
In the ceremony, President Yameen said that clean water and sanitation systems were two of the most basic services required by the citizens and core to the development of the nation. He added that his administration will focus on fulfilling the basic needs of the public.
