No major activity in marking anti-tobacco day: HPA
Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said that there were no major activities in celebrating the world anti-tobacco day, marked on May 31.

Even though HPA had decided not to carry out major activities to celebrate the day, the Government had been conducting various programs against smoking. The most significant work had been carried out by Dhamanaveshi in their tobacco cessation clinic.

Dhamanaveshi today said 25 individuals are currently registered in the clinic, with nine of them having successfully quit smoking. The clinic said that this was a success for the program.

STO’s Henveyru pharmacy is also conducting information sessions on smoking.

The number of smokers have been increasing, with rising number of women and children taking up the habit. Hulhumale’ has become a central zone for shisha smokers, especially on the beach front area.
