MACL MD Adil Moosa has said the fuel sold at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) will be at regional prices.
Answering a question posed by Miadhu in this evening’s press conference held to renew the fuel supply agreements between MACL and STO, Adil Moosa said some of the airlines did not purchase oil from the Maldives as they were fuel producing countries.
“We are a fuel import nation, we resell them. So we cannot sell oil at the same prices as of Dubai. In spite of this some of those carriers are buying oil from us,”
He said once the fuel farm was completed, the airport will have the capacity to store three times more than its current storage levels. He noted that with this the airport can buy more oil in bulk, thereby reducing the prices.
“When we can buy at reduced prices, we will share the profits with the carriers,”
Many airlines have commended the services given by MACL. When GMR was operating the airport and jacked up the oil prices, causing many airlines to reconsider their flight options. While some carriers had reduced their flights, others had completely halted operations.
