29 kilos of drugs seized in naval operation
Twenty-nine kilos of heroin were seized in a naval operation conducted by Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defense Force.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdullah Nawaz today said Ahmed Sadhoof Hussain of G. Raiykokaage was in charge of executing the drug trade.

He said the drugs were transferred from a vessel outside of Maldives territorial waters to a vessel owned by Mohamed Niushad of Aasthaanaa, L, Maamendhoo. The drugs were discovered in a cylinder on board the vessel. Based on current observations, Nawaaz said the drugs had most likely originated from Pakistan.

Nawaz said Police and MNDF had been tracking and engineering the operation for four days. Based on the street value, the drugs are worth MVR 145 million. Nawaz had noted that this was one of the largest heists in the country.
