India grants 20 scholarships to Maldives
India has handed over scholarships, documentation and tickets to the recipients of the 20 scholarships handed over to the Maldives from India.
The scholarships were handed over in a ceremony held in the Indian Cultural Center this morning by Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Akhilesh Mishra.
The 20 were chosen from the 39 who applied for the scholarship. All 20 candidates are PhD scholars and will study in either Delhi University or the Hyderabad Usmania University.
Speaking in the ceremony, Persident Hussain Rasheed Ahmed said India had always provided education opportunities to the Maldives, and that he had been one of the recipients of this generous aid. He also reflected on the issues a student may face studying abroad, urging the applicants to focus on studies. He advised that issues will occur and students will have to adjust to new cultures and food.
He thanked India for their continued assistance to the country’s education sector.
The scholarship is fully funded by the Government of India.
