Long time staffer at President’s Office, Residence laid to rest
Hussain Mohamed Didi, long time staffer at the President’s Office and the Official Residence of the President, has been laid to rest.

President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom had paid his condolences to the family following the death of Hussain Mohamed Didi. In his condolences, the President noted the work carried out by Didi during his long tenure serving the President’s Office and the Residence, including other Government ministries. Hussain Mohamed Didi is an uncle to the First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim.

He had served the government for over 23 years, filling positions such as President’s Office Director, Protocol and Ceremonial Affairs, Personal Secretary to the President, Presidential Palace Director, Director General and Executive Director. He served as the Administrator of the Youth Council, Consultant for Hulhumale’ Greening Project and Assistant Agriculture Officer and Ministry of Agriculture.

A skilled craftsman by nature, Didi had picked up most of skills on his own and was an exceptional volunteer. He was a skilled carpenter, stamper and builder. Didi was an avid horticulturist; planting and selling various trees. His biggest service was the work done in Dharubaaruge. He had overseen the design and development of Dharubaaruge.

He was awarded by National Service Award in 1990 in recognition of his work.

Hussain Mohamed Didi taught in EPS School, earning the love and respect of many students.

He was an innovator; opening the first supermarket standard shop in the Maldives, under the name Fresh and Green, supplying most of Male’ with vegetables during low supply.

He is survived by a wife and two children. He passed away in the early hours of June 15th at 67 years. The funeral was delayed to allow his children to come to Male’ from Australia.
