Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim has congratulated France on ratifying the COP21 agreement on climate change.
Maldives, current chair of the Alliance of Small Island States, congratulated France on ratifying the agreement and Minister Thoriq added that France was the first nation to formally ratify the agreement.
"Signing is good, ratifying is better," Hollande quipped at the Elysee Palace ceremony, flanked by Environment Minister Segolene Royal, Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault and other top officials. Hollande called on other European countries to follow France's lead by the end of the year.
Only a few nations have ratified the COP21, most of them are low lying island nations. The Maldives is a signatory on the COP21, with Environment Minister penning the historic agreement in New York.
