Local market become an expatriate outpost
The number of expatriates in the local market had increased over the years, in spite of the local moniker. The number of expatriates had increased to the point where the question of the local-ness of the market is in question.

A visit to the market would show that on average, stalls run by Maldivians amounts to seven out of the two lines of stalls. The rest were manned by expatriates.

Government officials and related agencies had said that they were monitoring and reviewing the issue.

Many had said that the market prices were now controlled by expatriates.

Immigration had said they were reviewing the issue, instilling procedures, with results now apparent from the measures. This is achieved in part due to collaboration between immigration and related agencies.

Economic Ministry had said that the Ministry, Housing Ministry and Police were running a special operation to address the issue.
