Yoga  Day Activities concluded
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. DunyaMaumoon graced as the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony of the 2ndInternational Yoga Day organized by the High Commission of India and Indian Cultural Centre in Maléon 21st June at Artificial Beach.

The Opening Ceremony was held on 18th June at Maafaanu Youth Centre. A number of yoga sessions were organized for disabled people, school children, teachers as well as Hulhumale and Villinglee Islands for local people.
The High Commissioner of India, H.E. Shri Akhilesh Mishra thanked the Maldivian authorities and the people of Maldives for their cooperation and support.

Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition for bringing harmony between mind and body. Recognizing the relevance of Yoga, the United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga by consensus on December 11, 2014, through a resolution which was co-sponsored by a record 177 countries including Maldives.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Hon’ble Minister for Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency, Ms.DunyaMaunoonhighlighted on the health and physical benefits of Yoga and how Yoga promote a healthier life style. She also said that Yoga’s ability to create inner peace in individuals’ in turn helps in facilitating a more peace-loving society”.

Dr. Savita Harish, ICC Yoga Teacher conducted a short lecture demonstration and presentation about Yoga.

The High Commissioner informed that the Indian Cultural Centre in Male’ holds free daily yoga classes and many Maldivians regularly attending and benefiting with this.
