Can clear cargo within six hours now: MPL
MPL has stated that agency now will be able to clear goods from small boats within six to eight hours this Ramadan. MPL said that in previous Ramadans they were able to carry out this operation between three to five days.

Speaking to Miadhu, MPL CEO Mohamed Junaid today said this was achieved by reorganizing the work process and without increasing the number of employees or resources.

Junaid said the number of small boats had increased every year around Ramadan, reflecting the increase in commerce. He said this year the prices had maintained at a stable rate due to the reduced clearance hours. He added that in previous years the increased times had contributed to spoiled perishables and subsequent increased prices. He noted that this year no such issue had occurred.

“When President Yameen assigned MPL to me, he specifically asked me to give priority to expediting the flow of perishables. He did not want to create a situation where the prices would increase,”

Junaid said they had managed to increase the number of cleared containers to 150 per day.

“Most of the clearance area was a landfill. After clearing the area, we could clear around 100 containers in the area,”

Junaid said that previously the agency had employed a principle of fining but now they had rejected the principle. Instead, he said the agency was now relying on improving their services to increase their earnings.
