Some of PPM MPs had described former President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom as an opponent of the economic agenda of President Abdullah Yameen.
Speaking in the Parliament debate over the issue of leasing islands without bidding, PPM MPs said the motion was a core part of ensuring the President’s economic agenda was achieved and those who opposed the motion did not support the agenda.
They said some individuals had messaged them over the issue, urging not to vote for the motion.
President Maumoon had voiced against the motion and called on the MPs not to vote for the motion. He said the purpose of PPM was to ensure justice, equal opportunities and transparency and that it was his responsibility to voice out if the party fails to follow mandate.
Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer said though the bidding process had been eliminated, all procedures will be carried out in a transparent manner.
