ADK opens first HDU
ADK Hospitals has opened up the first High Dependency Unit (HDU) with 12 beds, the first of its kind in the country. The unit was opened by Aneesa Ahmed, a long term service person to the health industry.

Managing Director Ahmed Af’aal said the unit will greatly improve the in-patient care at the hospital.

“The patients in the unit will be under a centralized procedure, easy mobility within the unit. That’s why patient care will be easier,”

He said the unit is one degree lower than the ICU, but of a higher quality than the wards.

“The biggest issue is the ICU is always overbooked. This is a solution to the issue, 12 additional beds,”

Af’al said all patients who are kept in ICU following operations are not critical ones but there was no choice. He added that even though some types of beds used in the HDU were used in other parts, no other HDU is in operation.
