Civil Court has ordered Home Ministry to take action against all employees of Haveeru news, employed in other media.
The case of Haveeru ownership status was contested by shareholders, Abdullah Farooq Hassan, Ibrahim Rasheed Moosa and Mohamed Naeem. The verdict announced by Civil Court stated that Haveeru cannot be operated without the participation of three shareholders and that employees of Haveeru cannot be employed in another news media.
The verdict said that if any employee had defied the verdict, Home Ministry will have to take action against it and that this verdict will be enforceable for a period of two years.
The verdict also said the employees were connected to Haveeru and any mass resignation will negatively impact the paper. The verdict stated that this had been the precedent in previous cases and a legally valid decision.
Last August, High Court had sentenced that Haveeru was not the sole property of Haveeru Chairman Dr. Mohamed Zahir Hussain but jointly owned by him, Abdullah Farooq Hassan and Ibrahim Rasheed. Dr. Zahir Hussain’s Supreme Court appeal was rejected.
