Maldives Ports Limited has revealed that the bus services for Addu City and Fuvahmulah will formally begin on 15th, 16th and the 17th of this month.

Speaking to Miadhu, MPL CEO Mohamed Junaid said the all islands connected to Addu City will begin bus services on the 15th of this month, in a special ceremony held in Feydhoo. Hulhumeedhoo bus services will start on the 16th while on the 17th bus services will start for Fuvahmulah.

Junaid said orders for eight 52 seat buses and five 38 seat buses have been placed.

“Eight 52 seat buses and one 38 seat bus will be used for Addu City bus service. Two buses seating 38 passengers will be used in Hulhumeedhoo, while two 38 seat buses will be used in Fuvahmulah,”

Junaid said the fleet will be increased based on the support and experience.

“We have created a workshop capable of handling bus maintenance. And we’re seeking mechanics for the workshop,”

He said the buses will cater to school students when launched. Junaid said the bus prices will be fixed based on destination, instead of one price for all destinations.

He also noted that bus stops were being decided upon in collaboration with City and Atoll Council.
