German Ambassador pays farewell call on the President

The Ambassador of Germany H.E. Dr. Jürgen Morhard paid his farewell call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom at the President’s Office Yesterday morning.

During the call, the President expressed his gratitude to the contributions made by Germany especially in the tourism sector and in infrastructure development in Maldives. The President also highlighted Germany’s ongoing assistance in the environment sector and the contributions in development.

The President and the Ambassador noted that this year marks the golden jubilee of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany, and exchanged views in further enhancing the ties. The President and the Ambassador also noted the importance of attracting more German investors to the Maldives, particularly in the tourism sector. The President briefed the Ambassador about the policies and measures that the Government is taking to create a more invester-friendly environment in the Maldives.

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee and Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed attended the call


New Hungarian Ambassador assures cooperation in the education sector

The new Hungarian Ambassador, Gyula Petho presented his Letter of Credence to President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom this morning at a ceremony held at the President’s Office. Following the ceremony, the new Ambassador called on President Yameen.

During the discussion at the call, the Ambassador assured cooperation with the Maldives in the education sector. Ambassador Petho expressed Hungary’s interest in providing higher education opportunities for Maldivians in health services and other technical fields. He also discussed with the President, on ways Hungary could provide assistance in the area of water management in the Maldives.

At today’s ceremony, President Yameen congratulated the new Ambassador on the commencement of his term, and welcomed him to the Maldives.

The President was accompanied at the meeting by acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee and Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.


Pakistani High Commissioner pays a courtesy call on the Vice President


The High Commissioner of Pakistan to the Maldives, His Excellency Vice Admiral (retired) Sayyid Khawar Ali Shah paid a courtesy call on Vice President Abdulla Jihad, early Monday afternoon, at the President’s Office.

During the meeting, Vice President Jihad highlighted that July 26th, Maldives’ Independence Day, of this year marks the 50th anniversary since bilateral relations were established between Maldives and Pakistan – the Vice President and the Pakistani High Commissioner also discussed further strengthening the existing ties between the two nations in terms of commerce, culture, education and health.

The Vice President was accompanied at the meeting by the Additional Foreign Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Hussain Niyaz.
