Maldives Media Council has stated that though the amended defamation bill provided some relief there were still many concerns.
Council President Mohamed Asif stated that they hope to bring a resolution to the matter by way of discussion.
Speaking to Miadhu, Asif said that the discussions were successful, noting that this was why the original bill was repealed. He added that they were cooperative and that they had provided guidelines for journalists.
Asif said that the Council will seek to hold discussions with stakeholders, adding that they will send the letters tomorrow.
Most journalists have expressed concern over the fact that Maldives Broadcasting Commission is silent on the issues facing journalists.
