Six sentenced over May Day protests
Criminal Court has sentenced six individuals to serve five years in jail over the opposition organized May Day protests of 2015.

Five-year jail sentences were issued on Ibrahim Labaan Shareef, Naasira Ali, Ahmed Ibrahim, Farhath Ali. Abdulla Rasheed Mohamed and Umar Zahir. Two others, Moosa Sharmeel and Ali Rasheed, had been deemed not guilty of the same charges.

The ruling said that Labaan had pushed Police Sargent Abdu Rahman on May Day night between 2200 and 2230 hrs near Iskandar School. The rest five had acted as accomplices to the attacks that followed.

Previously, the Court had sentenced a man to seven years in jail for hitting a Police officer in the protests with a helmet.
