Defamation bill must be revised: Anaaraa
MP for Makunudhoo Constituency Anaaraa Naeem has stated that the defamation bill must be amended.

Speaking about the bill, Anaaraa said that elected officials are placed in their positions to serve and protect the rights of the public. Therefore, she said that this must be the priority of the MPs in the Parliament. Anaaraa said MPs had to be accountable when passing bills and must focus on protecting the rights of the public.

Anaaraa highlighted that there were various clauses and articles in the Constitution pertaining to the rights of the citizens and stressed that these rights must be delivered in full.

Many have noted that this defamation bill was more severe than the clause 38 that was annulled years ago. That clause stated that any actions or words that sparks hatred against the Government in him/herself will be a punishable offense.
