President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has laid the foundation for the Fifth Power Development Project in Hulhumale. The ceremony was held this afternoon at the Hulhumale industrial area.
The Fifth Power Development Project is being carried out by STELCO, with the assistance of China's Dongfang Electric Corpation.
On completion, the new power plant will have the capacity to generate 50 MW of power to Male', Hulhule and Hulhumale, via the Maldives-China friendship bridge.
Today's ceremony was attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Maldives His Excellency Wang Fukang, and members of the Cabinet.
The Project runs at a cost of 104 million US Dollars.The Full amount is a loan aid from Chinese Exim Bank, Chinese Government and the Contractor.
