Adeeb, alleged sniper, two others charged
Criminal charges has been raised against former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, alleged Sri Lankan sniper Lahiru Madhushankar and two others over the planned assassination of President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom. The case was filed in Criminal Court today.

In addition to Adeeb and Madhushankar, charges were raised against Fazeel Hameed of M. Lily Park and Ishaq Hussain of G. Oivaali.

Adeeb, Fazeel and Madhushankar have been charged with willfully plotting to murder an individual. Ishaq had been charged as an accomplice to the planning.

PG said that Adeeb and Fazeel were being charged with recruiting a sniper to assassinate the President back in October 2015. Madhushankar was being charged for accepting the offer to assassinate. Ishaq was being charged with assisting and transporting required materials and cash on Adeeb’s order to facilitate the assassination.

Adeeb is presently serving an aggregated 33 years on three separate charges, while many other cases are still being tried.

Madhushankar has been under arrest since he was arrested last October. His family alleged that he is a dried fish seller and that he had no criminal past. An international campaign was launched recently calling for his release.
