The 2016 Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy has been run and won by West Australian surfer Taj Burrow. Burrow came up against the event’s defending champion, big wave legend Shane Dorian in the Final.
Burrow was awarded US$ 10,000 while Dorian was awarded US$ 3,000 in a ceremony held last night.
The champion of the current year, will get the opportunity to defend the title, but in the past four years no surfer had been able to win the title in two consecutive years.
This is the sixth year Four Seasons held the Championship. This year, six international surfers and local surfer Ibu contested in the Championship.
Four Seasons Kuda Hura General Manager Randy Shimabook said all participants of the event had collaborated to ensure the event was a success and thanked all for their effort. He added the resort will host the Championship next year as well.
Participants reported that Four Seasons had arranged excellent accommodations for them. Most of the surfers had come to the Maldives with their families.
