Corruption has increased exponentially: Transparency
Transparency Maldives has stated that before corruption cases were minor before corruption expanded exponentially to major financial crimes.

TM made the statement in the ceremony held to sign the agreement to undertake a study to strengthen ACC operations. TM said before corruption cases involved minor things like stealing a coconut but now it has become major financial crimes. The agency said the rectification process was extensive, adding that ACC mandate was being restricted.

Speaking to Miadhu, ACC President Hassan Luthfee said that ACC laws were still the same and amendments were needed to address the key concerns now. He added that they had submitted the amendments to the Parliament but the Parliament is yet to make a move on those amendments.

Luthfee said that ACC mandate was further restricted having failed to criminalize corruption. He said this needed to be addressed. He also said ACC not having the mandate to investigate criminal elements of cases filed to the Commission was also a hindrance to the Commission.
